To help meet state and county waste reduction goals, the City of Alameda has an innovative curbside food scrap recycling program.
Food scraps and food wrappers (and other paper that has been soiled by food) comprise the largest segment of what is thrown away in Alameda County. But food scraps are a resource -- not a waste. By participating in Alameda's food scrap recycling program, food scraps become compost -- a valuable resource used by landscapers and farmers.
