Library Support Groups

The Alameda Free Library receives support from three citizen groups that provide volunteer services, fund raising activities, and political advocacy: Friends of the Alameda Free Library, Alameda Free Library Foundation and Library Board of Trustees.

FoAFLFriends of the Alameda Free Library
The Friends of the Alameda Free Library was established in 1973 to increase public awareness of the library as an essential part of the community's educational and cultural facilities; and  to support and cooperate with the library in developing library services and facilities.

AFLFAlameda Free Library Foundation
The Alameda Free Library Foundation was founded in 1998 and is dedicated to establishing strong, private, on-going financial support for the library so that the library has sufficient funds for programs, materials, and equipment to meet the needs of our community.

Library Board of Trustees
The Library Board of Trustees, a group of five volunteer citizens appointed by the Mayor, may serve up to two four-year terms. Trustees act as stewards for the community's library and advise the City Council on matters pertaining to the library.
